As a co-founder of StopTheSewage.org, our Coronado non-profit 501c3 educating and advocating for solutions to this crisis, I remain on the front lines to demand solutions that are built to last. We're not just fixing a broken plant but planning for future growth and pollution solutions. Coronado can and should do more to protect our health and beaches. Our small businesses and tourism depend on it, too. Let's fix this mess.
Public safety is the responsibility of local government, and we need to catch up to this fun new ride with the safety measures to match. Public safety is the responsibility of local government, and we need to catch up to this fun new ride with the safety measures to match. E-bikes have exploded in numbers on the streets (and sidewalks) of Coronado. What we know is cars and e-bikes travel at similar speeds, and the dangers to our kids - who are not cognizant of the rules of the road - are real. No driver wants to hurt a kid. We will work together, find best practice in other cities and include our kids in crafting safer streets and sidewalks.
Storms and Water Resiliency are two major planning issues to protect Coronado's future. Storms and Water Resiliency are two major planning issues to protect Coronado's future. The flooding that occured in Country Club, along 4th, and in the low lying areas near the tennis courts - not to mention Orange Avenue - showed that hundred year storms are coming every five years now. The Colorado River pact is up in 2026 and water rates are about to jump. This requires action on Coronado's part to keep our golf course, medians and parks green.
As co-founder of StopTheSewage.org, I have been leading a bipartisan group of concerned Coronado citizens in demanding more public attention to our beach sewage crisis.
As your councilmember, I will continue to work tirelessly toward a permanent fix for our coastal beaches. I will bring this same dedication and energy to addressing major issues facing our city including public safety, traffic, parking, e-bike safety, infrastructure, and more... always listening to you, and always putting Coronado first.
I have traveled to the White House and Congress with Imperial Beach Mayor Aguirre, Coronado Councilman Duncan, and Chula Vista Mayor McCann, securing the required $156 million of the funds needed to start overdue repairs on our malfunctioning federally-run sewage treatment plant, and have recently testified in Sacramento on environmental and governance bills for our community's fight with Port of San Diego pollution and Port development conflicts such as Cottages at the Cays. Mentoring the Stop The Sewage Club at CHS (at left) has helped our students learn public policy and advocacy work as citizen scientists. It's my labor of love for these future voters as they won "club of the year" in 2024 at CHS.
My professional career as a broadcast executive and licensee, Fortune 500 Energy executive, entrepreneur and small business owner, gives me a well-rounded perspective and a capacity for building consensus. My husband Jon, our four kids and six grandkids always keep me grounded. As a recent Executive Master's Degree graduate from Arizona State University in Sustainability Leadership, my research concentrated on Coronado traffic woes, and flood resilience - which our town needs to prioritize now.
